Junior High & Upper Elementary Autumn Outdoors Trip!
Exploring fossils and the river.
Let’s celebrate the cooler temperatures of October with an outdoor adventure weekend in Glen Rose / Cleburne. Glen Rose is close to DFW but a world away if you know where to look. Join us to avoid the usual crowds and enjoy a weekend of both solitude & adventure.
We are proud to present a weekend of camping, inner tubing, hiking, and rock climbing on Columbus Day weekend (October 11-14). We are tailoring this experience for upper elementary students (grades 4-7). A parent or guardian is required, and older or younger siblings are welcome. We will avoid the crowded campsites of the nearby state parks by camping at a private farm. The adventures include rock climbing at historic grain silos, horseback riding and hiking at Dinosaur Valley and Cleburne State Parks, and fossil & boulder scrambling at Nolan River. Our itinerary is as follows:
11 October (Friday): Camp at a private farm between Cleburne & Glen Rose. Sunlight permitting, hike the limestone cliff spillway of Cleburne State Park.
12 October (Saturday): Enjoy tour of the beehives followed by a caravan down to the historic Siloville Rock Climbing Silos. Enjoy lunch in the quaint Hico downtown. In the afternoon, enjoy some of the less known and lesser traveled trails in Dinosaur Valley State Park. Return to campsite
13 October (Sunday): Horseback ride in the morning and laze the afternoon away in an inner tube float down the Brazos River. Time permitting, explore some more of Dinosaur Valley’s Denio Creek rock formations. Return to bee farm.
14 October (Monday): Strike camp & hike the Nolan River valley with fossils to see (and collect if you find any). Head home around lunchtime.
Cost: $600 per adult plus child; $100 per additional family member. Breakfast and dinner provided Saturday morning - Monday morning. (Bring your own lunches and snacks.) Tents, sleeping bags, bedrolls, and coolers available on first come-first served basis while supplies last.
